Cynthia "Cindy" Rutherford
1957-2026
Cynthia Leigh Rutherford, known affectionately as Cindy, was a beacon of love, creativity, and compassion, whose light touched the hearts of many. Born on the 14th of May, 1957 in San Diego, CA, she lived a life full of warmth and joy. Cynthia was a woman of faith, whose actions reflected her deep and unwavering belief in the teachings of Christianity. The prophet Isaiah wrote "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Though there were trials in Cindy's life, she did not lose sight of the hope she had in Jesus.
After graduating from Grant Hills High School in El Cajon, California, she earned an associate degree from Grossmont College. She taught in Christian schools both in Southern California and Washington state as well as worked as a paraeducator in Southern California. Her professional journey then led her to Eddie Bauer, where she shone as a sales representative, earning the title of top salesperson twice. Despite her professional accomplishments, Cynthia's true passion lay in the hearts of her family and her faith. Her home in Beatrice, Nebraska, was always filled with the aroma of her delicious cooking, and the sound of her award-winning voice, a testament to her high school accolades. Her creativity found its expression in crocheting baby blankets and prayer shawls, a pastime she loved. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Cynthia is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Shane Rutherford, and their sons, Andrew and Brandon Rutherford; grandchildren, Kizziah, Kohl, Troy, Gene, Gwen, Cali, Hank, and Jadelyn; niece, Natalie; nephew, Ben; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lila Becker, and her daughter, Jennifer Rutherford. As we bid farewell to Cynthia, we invite you to celebrate her life on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:30am CST at Christ Community Church, located at 2727 Lincoln Street, Beatrice, Nebraska, 68310. The service will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel.
In honor of Cynthia's memory, we encourage you to share your memories, upload photos, and view her video tribute on her memorial page at www.ghchapel.com. Your stories and pictures will serve as comforting reminders of the loving, creative, and compassionate woman we were privileged to know.
